There are two kinds of ball mill gears: large gear and small gear, and the large and small gears of ball mill are its important transmission parts, which are responsible for transmitting the power of the motor to the cylinder, so as to drive the ball mill’s grinding ball cylinder to rotate movement. The following is a detailed introduction to the structure and function of the ball mill gears:

Ball mill large gear (driven gear): fixed on the main shaft of the ball mill, generally two-flap type, firmly coupled with bolts. Its main function is to drive the cylinder to rotate according to the set speed ratio, and drive the cylinder to rotate through gear meshing.

Ball mill pinion (active gear): mounted on the output shaft of the reducer or motor, through the meshing with the large gear, the kinetic energy transmitted by the reducer to the large gear, and then drive the ball mill cylinder rotation.

The large and small gears are usually made of high-strength alloy steel, tempered and heat-treated to improve wear resistance and service life.

Spur Gears

Helical gear: more common, smooth meshing, low noise, can withstand large loads.
Spur gear: simple structure, but noise and impact.
Module and number of teeth: the number of teeth of the large gear is mostly an integer multiple of the pinion (such as 4-6 times), and the module is calculated according to the load (usually ≥ 20mm).

The delivery of finished large gears has to go through many stages such as design, modeling, molding, casting, sand cleaning, annealing, inspection, rough machining of the bonding surface, drilling and reaming of the bonding surface, pairwise putting together, rough machining of the outer circle and endface, flaw detection, inspection, performance heat treatment, repairing of the bonding surface, machining of the outer circle and endface, rough hobbing, fine repairing of the bonding surface, finish machining of the outer circle and endface, fine hobbing, oiling, and warehousing, and so on.

  • The tooth side clearance needs to be strictly adjusted (generally 0.25-0.4mm modulus).
  • Gear axis parallelism error ≤ 0.05mm/m.
  • Tooth contact spots need to be ≥ 50% (along the tooth height, tooth length direction).

  • Regularly check the wear of gears, use spray lubrication or oil pool lubrication, recommend high viscosity industrial gear oil.
  • Clean up the oil regularly to avoid the accumulation of metal chips.
