Grinding mills are key equipment for further pulverizing materials after crushing. There are many types, such as ball mills, rod mills, vertical mills, autogenous mills, and ultrafine grinding equipment.
To distinguish them from autogenous mills, grinding mills requiring metal media balls or rods are typically called conventional grinding mills, such as ball mills and rod mills.
Ball mills are further categorized into grate-type ball mills and overflow-type ball mills. Grate-type ball mills enable low-level forced discharge, preventing finely ground particles from lingering excessively within the mill. This promptly eliminates over-grinding, resulting in rapid grinding speeds and high efficiency. Overflow ball mills feature an inclined discharge end. When the pulp level rises above the discharge opening’s inner diameter, the pulp overflows and discharges. This design results in slower discharge rates, severe over-grinding, and lower throughput. Consequently, overflow ball mills are generally used for fine grinding or as the second stage in two-stage grinding processes.
