Working Principle of Impact Crusher
Impact crusher is a kind of crushing machine which utilizes impact energy to crush materials. When the material enters the plate hammer area, the high-speed impact of the plate hammer causes the crushed material to be continuously thrown to the impact device installed above the rotor to be crushed, and then rebound from the impact liner to the plate hammer area to be impacted again.
The materials enter the first, second and third impact chambers from big to small and are crushed repeatedly. Until the material is crushed to the required size and discharged from the lower part of the machine. Adjusting the gap between the counterattack frame and rotor frame can achieve the purpose of changing the granularity and shape of the material.

Impact Crusher-structure Application in Crushing Plants
Impact Crusher is widely used in the following fields:
Mining industry: It can be used to crush various kinds of ores such as iron ore, copper ore, lead-zinc ore and so on, crushing them into the required particle size for subsequent processing and use.
Construction industry: It can crush granite, basalt, limestone, river pebbles and other construction stones and sand, which can be used for concrete production, road paving, house construction, etc..
Highway and railroad construction: It can process stones with high compressive strength such as basalt, andesite, etc., and provide high-quality filler for highway and railroad engineering roadbed filling and pavement laying.
Water conservancy and hydropower industry: it can crush various kinds of hard materials such as granite, basalt, etc., and provide stone materials for building dams for hydropower projects.
Industrial field: it can crush iron ore into suitable particle size and provide raw materials for iron and steel making process. It is also suitable for crushing chemical materials such as calcium carbide and gypsum to ensure their fineness and uniformity.

Advantageous features of Impact Crusher
- Multifunctional hydraulic device:The hydraulic adjustment device for hydraulic cover opening and discharge port (with automatic overload protection function) can quickly complete the replacement of worn parts, control the discharge granularity and gradation of the equipment, achieve high adjustment accuracy and fast speed, reduce labor intensity and shorten the time Downtime.
- High-strength frame:By optimizing the frame structure, the connection strength is higher, and it is light weight and compact, making it easy to install, maintain and transport.
- Unique plate hammer locking system:The unique shape of the blow bar and the solid locking structure make the blow bar have good impact resistance and wear resistance and maintain stable discharge particle size. The blow hammer can be replaced vertically and horizontally to adapt to different site needs.
- New high wear-resistant materials:The modular design makes most wearing parts interchangeable, effectively reducing the consumption of wearing parts, extending the replacement cycle, reducing parts inventory, and saving costs.
Impact Crusher FAQ
Q: What’s the difference between an impact crusher and a cone crusher? Which one should I choose?
A: Both are used for secondary and tertiary crushing, but they work differently. An impact crusher uses impact force and produces better-shaped aggregates. It’s suitable for medium-hard stones like limestone. A cone crusher uses compression and has lower wear costs, making it ideal for hard stones like granite. Quick rule: choose based on material hardness, desired particle shape, and budget.
Q: How often do blow bars need to be replaced on an impact crusher?
A: It depends on the material being crushed. For medium-soft materials like limestone, high-quality blow bars can last 3,000–6,000 hours. For highly abrasive materials like river pebbles or granite, lifespan may drop to 800–1,500 hours. High-chrome alloy composite blow bars are recommended, as they can increase wear resistance by over 50%.
Q: What should I do if the output size from my impact crusher is too large?
A: The main cause is usually worn blow bars or impact plates, which increases the gap. Solution: Adjust the gap between the impact racks and the blow bars (a smaller gap produces finer output), or replace the worn blow bars and liners.
Q: Why does my impact crusher vibrate abnormally during operation?
A: Common causes include: oversized feed material, unbalanced rotor due to uneven blow bar wear, or loose anchor bolts. Solutions: Check and control feed size, replace worn parts and rebalance the rotor, and tighten equipment bolts.
Q: My impact crusher keeps clogging. What can I do?
A: Common clogging causes and solutions:
- Material too wet: Pre-dry or add drying equipment
- Too much feed: Control feed rate to avoid overload
- Blocked discharge opening: Adjust the discharge opening size promptly
- Loose V-belts: Check and adjust belt tension
Q: Is it normal for the bearings on an impact crusher to overheat?
A: No, it is not normal. Overheating usually indicates poor lubrication (oil should fill about 50% of the bearing housing volume) or degraded oil. Solutions: Check and add lubricating oil. If the oil appears thick or black, clean the bearings and replace with fresh oil.
Q: Can an impact crusher handle wet materials?
A: Impact crushers handle wet materials better than cone crushers, but if moisture exceeds 10–15%, clogging can still occur. For high-moisture conditions, it’s best to reduce material moisture beforehand or adjust crusher parameters accordingly.
Q: What should I do if I hear unusual noises from my impact crusher?
A: Stop the machine immediately and inspect! Unusual noises are usually caused by: tramp metal in the crushing chamber, loose liners or blow bars, or insufficient gap between blow bars and impact plates. Clear the crushing chamber, tighten liner bolts, and adjust the gap to the proper range.
Q: Are dust and noise serious problems with impact crushers?
A: They can be effectively controlled. For dust: install dust covers at the feed opening, connect a baghouse dust collector at the discharge (over 99% efficiency), or use high-pressure dry mist dust suppression. For noise: operators should wear protective earplugs, and vibration damping pads can be added to the equipment.
Q: How can I improve the production efficiency of my impact crusher?
A: Key tips:
- Ensure even, continuous feeding (avoid surges)
- Keep feed size within equipment specifications (e.g., ≤500mm)
- Regularly check blow bar and liner wear, replace as needed
- Maintain proper V-belt tension
- Adjust rotor speed and impact plate gap based on material characteristics
